it’s about community

The community cafe aims to provide food in a down-to-earth, inclusive and friendly environment. We serve food that is delicious, healthy and affordable, and use as much surplus food as is available with a new menu every week.

Our cafe is situated in The Old Stables, Stirlings Close, OX12 7AU, in a newly renovated building. It is a short walk from the Waitrose carpark and can be accessed via a footpath opposite the BP Garage (Wallingford Road and Seessen Way).

We hold a few cooking-related events: The Community Cook-In is a collective and very sociable cooking session that is open to anyone who would like to meet others, cook a meal together and share sustainable food ideas. This culminates in a sharing of a meal with each other and anyone who would like to join us on a ‘pay as you feel’ donation basis.

Our healthy food training sessions encourage creativity using everyday and affordable ingredients. We cook together, share recipe ideas, and learn about resourceful and sustainable cooking.

Getting involved in community activities can improve both physical and mental health and we hope that our activities, taking place in a community hub can improve a sense of belonging and pride, as well as helping people to connect to others and improve well-being. Customers are supported during the cost of living crisis with affordable meals and regular community meals

Small Steps (2023-24)

The Small Steps project provides children with a healthy breakfast, a homework club, and environmental activities – all taking place on a Saturday morning and facilitated by teachers and volunteers. Small Steps will bring about environmental awareness and encourage children to make an impact on reducing the effects of climate change in small achievable steps. Funded by the VOWHDC climate action fund.
