We use surplus food and are committed to reducing food waste through the cafe’s menu which changes weekly and is reliant on the surplus food available at the time from the Oxford Food Hub and SOFEA/Fareshare in Didcot.
The surplus food we use is fresh produce that has not yet reached the supermarket shelves. It is food that is destined for landfill and is saved and used by charities and social enterprises to help supplement meal provision and to use in food larders.
Down to Earth has signed the Oxford Good Food Charter – which gives us access to a network of businesses aligned to a vision for a vibrant, healthy and sustainable food system for Oxford and Oxfordshire.
